Ways to Make Sure That You And Your Braces Will Get Along

Now that you have Braces, its time to make sure that you become friends since you will be together for the next few months or years.  Here are some recommendations to make sure the two of you will get along.

Avoid sticky or hard foods.  Caramel, Toffee, Gum, Hard Candy and other sticky treats.  Sticky or hard foods can break a bracket or wire so it is best to just avoid them when you can.

Switch your eating habits.  If you are used to taking large bites with your front teeth, you may want to change.  Taking a large bite of food with your front teeth can leave your braces vulnerable to damage.  It is best to cut large foods into pieces and use your back teeth to chew.

Floss,  Flossing around your braces can be annoying but it is the best way to prevent gum disease and other problems.  It only takes a few minutes a day to ensure that you don’t face any dental issues when your braces come off.

Brush, brush, and brush some more.  The most important thing to do with braces is to brush your teeth often.  Food gets stuck in the teeth and brackets where bacteria lives in your mouth.  Brushing is imperative to avoid cavities, decalcification, an other issues.  Even if you don’t have braces you want to brush, but when undergoing orthodontic treatment it makes it absolutely vital to brush your teeth often.
