Braces hurt when it’s cold outside?

Does that Milwaukee winter weather seem to cause discomfort on your braces and teeth?

Cold weather can lead to some tooth pain and affect the way your braces feel.  Teeth will expand and contract when responding to extreme cold temperatures.  When this occurs, your teeth may become more sensitive causing your braces to feel a bit of discomfort.  Over the counter pain relievers should be enough to aid in the discomfort along with an application of fluoride to strengthen the enamel to help lower the sensitivity of your teeth.  Of course, if the pain becomes worse and doesn’t go away in warmer areas, you may want to visit us to determine if there is a different cause for your discomfort.
