Phase 1 Treatment / Growth Guidance

Some of our youngest patients are candidates for growth guidance treatment, also known as phase 1 treatment. Most commonly used in phase 1 treatment is an expander on the upper arch. The purpose of this treatment is to guide the growth of the patient’s mouth, in order to help accommodate adult teeth as they come in. It is skeletal work that can help make room for crowded teeth, prevent damage to teeth and gums, guide tooth eruption, and correct jaw growth abnormalities.

Spring Expander

This expander is a gentle force option that works best for elementary school-aged patients.

Palatal Expander

With this expander you will receive a key, and instructions on how frequently to turn the dial. This option works best for middle school and high school aged patients who have most or all of their adult teeth.
